Yes, the cockpit is huge - 10 feet long. The tradeoff is that the cabin is small, but for sailing the boat should be great. Now, how far away is Spring?

EE is correct about the location of the mast. It is stepped aft of the companionway, on the step. The keel winch is located inside a small compartment in the companionway step. The boat is designed to make single handed sailing very easy. The cabin is small, good only for a place to get out of the ...

My New C-20!

Having decided that I would do a complete restore on my C-22, I decided to look for a C-20 to sail in the meanwhile. I found one for sail less than 2 hours away, and yesterday, we drove up to see her, and ended up bringing her home. In the photos the PO sent me the boat appeared to have been well ...

Yeah, after I thought about it a bit I realized that "sanity" and "boat restoration" don't belong in the same sentence. Thanks for the link to the C20 in your area, I would be interested if it were closer.

I will have to start a restoration blog - I think it is going to be fun, and now that I don't ...

Thinking about another boat...

I've spent most of the weekend honestly evaluating the condition of my C22, especially after examining the keel bracket yesterday. The bracket is corroded beyond a point where it is safe to put her in the water, and after close examination of the standing rigging and the lifelines, they all need to ...

Dena,
Looks like you guys are getting a lot more grief out of Ida than we did on the Gulf !

Oh, boy, you aren't kidding! Tides have been really high, wind gusts over 65 mph, and oh, lest I forget, the unrelenting rain! This has been going on for 48 hours! Fortunately, the flooding didn't get into ...

Banshi,

Thanks so much for the photo! Your bracket looks like I fear mine might. I will get under the boat as soon as the nasty weather in Virginia passes, and I'll make sure to have my camera - we might have matching photographs! Also, thanks for the link to the other pics.

As usual, the Chrysler ...

Thanks Fran.

I have a feeling that the keel brackets are in very poor shape. Yesterday, I looked inside the boat in the area(s) you mentioned and what I saw was pretty sketchy, including a piece of wood screwed to something, so I surmised something that flimsy couldn't be the keel bracket!

I ...

How Do I Inspect My C22's Swing Keel Brackets?

I've been following the posts about the swing keel brackets, but not too closely since I thought they had been replaced by the PO. So, imagine my surprise this weekend when I looked over my notes and realized he had only replaced the keel pin!

The boat has been on the hard since I bought her in ...

While you have your rudder out I would appreciate an outline of the top and bottom profile. I have the basic plans off the lizzard web site but am not sure of the width as the profile moves down the rudder.

Removing the rudder is easy - just remove the center bolt and disconnect the lines attached to it. The more challenging task is removing the rudder shaft which is attached to the rudder cheeks. When I removed mine in Jan/Feb, the collar screw had seized (just like Gus mentioned), and I had to drill ...

I did get off easy. I would really have gotten mad if my "new sails" fund had taken a hit! The sails that came with the boat when I boat her in January are the originals and I swear I can read a newspaper through them. They definitely have to be replaced before I can put her in the water.

I recently discovered that some of my on-line accounts had been hacked, and those that had credit cards on file were used to purchase merchandise that was then billed to ...

You are in for a smooth ride! Wooden boats are more stable and I have found they have less of a weather helm. Let me know how you like it.

She's been out of the water for several years, always a concern with a wooden boat, but we will splash her on Sunday and see if she is water tight.

Thanks for the reply and the good advice! Don Casey's book is wonderful, in fact I am using the first section on boat survey's to find potential problems with my C22. I bought the boat on E-Bay in January and I want to make sure it is in good shape before I put her in the water.

Wet Core - Dry out or Replace?

Yesterday I removed the starboard side portlights on myC22. The core around both is wet on all four sides (yes above the opening too!). When I say wet, I mean dripping wet! I taped plastic over the portlights since the forcast called for rain. I then removed the chainplate on the starboard side ...

Also, this type of question would get more replies if you post it in the general discussion section.

Hi Tim,
Don't worry about getting hardware to match the deck holes. The existing holes can be easily filled with epoxy compound, allowing you to get mounting hardware that is available/affordable.

I believe it is a keel lockdown apparatus, which can be used to keep the keel from banging in rough weather. The one on my C22 is rusted shut, which is fine because I don't plan on using it.

I'm the only one thinking in sealing with a bulkhead the space under the cockpit? After all there's the rudder hole in there, and the cockpit lockers, and a failure in the rudder assembly, or on the cockpit leads, it'll mean a sunken boat.

I am considering doing something similar. My current idea ...
