I have a weakened bow eye as well... tough to work in there so for now I just injected a lot of 5200.... looks bad but I don't think I will get to it this spring.... I need to get more focus on my repair schedule and prioritize, O that leaves mast work ( halyards, polishing, and wiring): cabin sole ( could do this in the water) new depth, knot meter .. RUDDER!!! I am trying to figure out what to do here... At minmim I have to fex a peice of the forward upper blade betweenthe cheeks that broke off... OR, put in new thru hulls and bearings, or just order a new blade /shaft from FOSS... got to decide soon.. seacock for the galley sink

EE's boweye snapped right where the lower part of the U goes into the bow at the threads. No damage to the holes in the bow at all.

Just going to use the sawsall to cut the same place on the other side of the U rather than try to get a wrench down in that anchor locker bottom.

If you have the anchor locker, might check those nuts out. They are right where any crud collects if the drain clogs, and mine are way nasty.

Katrina snapped a piece of 3/4" braid that was attached to that eye, I should've changed it then , but it never occured to me. Guess the side loads in that last bout finished it off.

EE, sorry about your mishaps. At least you are safely in the yard.

I spent some time this weekend making a list of the repairs I need to make on my C22, and fortunately the transom wasn't on that list. I did find a problem in the cockpit - the aft area were the fuel tank for the outboard is stored looks like there is some delamination happening. Has anyone else experienced this?

WOW, EE.
Sorry to hear that.

Does this mean you are normally on a mooring bouy vs a dock tie?

If you look at the avatar, the boat is facing you, but normally is bow in to that pier, tied both at the cleats and the boweye, the stern is tied at cleats and sterneyes to the pilings at the left in the pic, with just enough slack to let her move around but not hit anything. Cleats are primary hold, eyes are backup/extra

I can get on board and off with a really big step, or a gangplank.

The deck cleats were off to rebed them, and I'm guessing the lateral force of the boat snatching side to side in high winds and big chop was too much for the vertical boweye.

Ah, OK.
I can see where she that she is exposed to a bit of a fetch and thus probably can take a beating in foul weather.

I looked in my transon compartment last Sat., and I noticed some weeds growing out of the gas tank pad. I grabbed my dremel tool and cut the the fiberglass around the top in sections, and then removed the fiberglass. Underneath was wood mush.

At some point a raccoon was living back there and left plenty of fertilizer for the weeds, and they rooted into the plywood mush.

I decided to cut the sides off that were around the edge of the plywood, so that I could sand a nice margin for reglassing.

Any suggestions on what to use to prevent leaking fuel from damaging/weakening the fiber glas in this area?
