Thinking about another boat...

Post by DenaP »

I've spent most of the weekend honestly evaluating the condition of my C22, especially after examining the keel bracket yesterday. The bracket is corroded beyond a point where it is safe to put her in the water, and after close examination of the standing rigging and the lifelines, they all need to be replaced. Plus, the deck is really soft and I think if I'm going to put $$ into everything else, I should repair the deterorating core while I am at it.

So, I am not considering abandoning the C22, I think I am prepared to declare her a long-term renovation project, and start looking for a C20 that is is fairly good condition, so I have something to sail during the next season which I restore the C22.

Any comments on the C20, or recomendations on an alternative daysailer would be greatly appreciated, as would be comments on my sanity for restoring the C22.

Cheers,
Dena

Sanity ? I've no right to even go there - you've seen EE's website after all.

Don't know if its still there, but here's a Craigslist C20 down my way.

Come on down, pick up a new sailboat, get some gumbo, pass a good time !!

Yeah, after I thought about it a bit I realized that "sanity" and "boat restoration" don't belong in the same sentence. Thanks for the link to the C20 in your area, I would be interested if it were closer.

I will have to start a restoration blog - I think it is going to be fun, and now that I don't have the pressure of a deadline, I can do a really nice job, and my husband doesn't have to machine parts for me in a hurry.

Now I only have to find another boat

Hey Alan, I'd never tell anyone but there is a C26 anchored in Langly!!

You should sail over one day and check her out! I did!

A C-26 in the flesh or should I say in the fiberglass. Yes I will have to sail over and check it out in person. I've never seen a C-26 in person before, only in photo's.

If we could get a break between storms here and I don't have class on the same day I'll have to check it out.

Thanks
Alan

Day Sailers

Post by Chrysler20%26 »

Looking for a good day sailer, or even a weekender, or fishing boat. You would not need to wory about the keel bracket. The C-20 would be for you, it has a shoe to hold the keel like the C-26, only insted of the pin the C-20 has a bolt. Only troble you would have would be finding time to work on your C-22. The C- 20 is so much fun, you will not wont to work on a boat when you can sail a C-20. Hear is how I know that, I got a C-26 that did not need much to be sail ready. Will it sat for three years in my driveway, wile I was sailing my C-20 every day I could. Got to the point that I was thinking of saleing the C-26 just to get it out of the driveway. Varry Varry happy that I finly got to sail the C-26. I just love C20 & C26. At 2500# the C-20 can be toled with a car, find one with in 2,000 miles go get it. You Will Not Be Sorry
