The nonskid is still a work in progress. We used sand blasting sand spread over wet primer. It sticks well to the deck, and is very non-skid, but it's soaking up lots of paint, which is why it looks rough. The areas around the cabin sides, and the back of the cabin top have enough coats of paint and you can see the final look in some of the pictures. I've got two more coats of paint to put on it. I just posted the pics to show off the shinny parts.

NYCSailor:
For repairs and filler, west systems epoxy with glass, and colloidal silica. Not the least expensive, but very Good Stuff.
For primer, Brightside Pre-Kote Primer.
Painting method, Roll and tip.
Paint, WEST MARINE SeaGloss Polyurethane Topside Paint. We chose the Sand color because it was on sale for $21 a quart. Good thing too, I needed the practice. The cabin sides and cockpit needed 4 coats to cover the mistakes of the 1st coat.
Rollers and brushes, cheap Walmart foam rollers and brushes.
Sandpaper, gator grit, lots and lots of sandpaper. I actually had to return the orbital sander when the bearings gave out. (wore out)

So pretty much it was the least expensive marine paint job I could manage. As tempting as it was to go even cheaper and use exterior house paint, I couldn't do it.

Some notes on painting outside:
If you do not finish painting early enough in the day, the paint coat will turn out dull and chalky. What is early enough? In 90 degree weather at least 2.5 to 3 hours before sunset. Also if the paint is still sticky at sunset, you will get bugs stuck in your paint job.
