The colour is bahama blue which is close to my main sail cover. Yeah, good idea about the cover. I will rig it so it does sort of work. The supports are remarkably stronger than I would have thought but the " canvas " is fairly light. But if it is wrecked, I have a pattern now to make a ne...

relaced keel cable

On a previous posting, I told about breaking the cable for the keel. Following the advice of posters and the Chrysler web sight, the boat was hauled out, I replaced the cable and was back in the water inside of 20 minutes. Nothing else was damaged. Surprisingly, easy to do !! On another note, my new...

I have a double block hanging from the boom about 2/3 back . Red and green lines are run through the block and to blocks on the cabin and then back to cleats on either side of the entry hatch. This is in effect the traveller and I can move the boom either side of the hatch and not clunk my head whil...

HELP CABLE BROKE FROM KEEL

Okay, this is what happened. Sailed over some unmarked rock, keel lifted and then slammed down, snapping the cable. Here is what I need to know: 1. the cable broke about a foot from the end of the winch---- can I rethread the remaining cable and reattach to the winch ( in other words, was the origin...

topsides, brown part

I painted the topsides and hull a few years ago and it really turned out well but I have never painted the rough brown finish that most of us walk on. What is this stuff? I suspect it is just the regular gelcoat that has some kind of material in it to give a grip when walking on it. Can it but paint...

cheap charter

Does anyone know of a independent charter(er) in the BVI ? I know Moorings is the traditional charter company but unless you go with 2 other couples, the cost is really prohibitive. Even my best friends with have some difficulty leaving in cramped quarters with wives for a week. I just don't want ta...

homemade bimini

A while back I saw a picture of a bimini for a 26. It had red canvas and I printed it off. However there are no measurements. Has anyone made their own bimini ? What kind of braces did you use ( single pole like a tree or rectangular fore and aft poles ?) I want to be able to stand up at the tiller....

water in cabin sole

This has happened whenever I am really healed over. After docking, the carpet on both sides of the keel shoe is wet. Someone once told me he never saw a drop keel that DIDN'T leak a little. I can't find where this water comes from. The keel cable does have a hose on it and I thought that is suppose ...

My motor mount had been reinforced by previous owner. It is a sheet metal of stainless steel folded over the mount and flared to either side and bolted into the hull on the flares. Much stronger than original.

I have painted both a 22 and a 26 ( hull and topsides ) I generally like the job and it is easy to do. Tape anything you don't want the paint on, rather than remove fittings as this can involve a great deal of repair. Buy interlux boat paint ( about $45. Canadian ) and what is called a thinner to in...

yes, you have to remove both front stays and just loosen the back two stays. I put too short bridles on either side of mast just to prevent wobble and the mast readily and easily comes down.

extra winch

The previous owner installed a winch on the mast, starboard side just below the boom. What did he use it for ? Some kind of sail ?. Other than for a bosom chair, I've never used it. Any suggestions as to its purpose ?

I want to raise the boat ever so slightly to paint under the trailer bunks ( long boards ) The boat is resting with most of the weight on the keel housing the drop keel and the front of the trailer. I propose to put huge blocks on the trailer frame and jack up one side at a time just enough to get a...

waxing bottom

For seven years, I sailed on Lake Simcoe Ontario. I never put anything on the bottom except for car wax. This seemed to keep any algae or zebra mussels off. But now I'm back in Lake Ontario. Years ago I docked here and remember clinging moss stuff on the waterline. Can I still just wax the bottom ea...
