painting under bunks

Post by javelin »

I want to raise the boat ever so slightly to paint under the trailer bunks ( long boards ) The boat is resting with most of the weight on the keel housing the drop keel and the front of the trailer. I propose to put huge blocks on the trailer frame and jack up one side at a time just enough to get a brush under the bunk boards, paint, let it dry, then do the other side. Does this sound sensible ?

I'd build the stack of blocks from the ground instead of from the trailer, if you can.

I jacked mine up from the rear just in front of the transom with a homemade saddle (from the ground) leaving it sitting on the forward roller then completely removed the bunks and painted everything except those two areas. Replaced the bunks and raised the bow up on blocks in front of the area that touched at the roller and finished painting these two areas.

I sanded and painted Lady Joe. launched her, sailed her and when I put her back on the trailer I made siure she was not in the exact same spot so I coul paint the spots I missed do to the trailer pads!

Guess I'm the laziest! LOL!

Not the laziest at all. I just don't worry about the spots that intersect the bunks :-)
