Hello Chrysler 26 sailors
It has been awhile since I have been on the board. i have been sailing on the Pacific Ocean Palau to The Philippines. I recently got back and I am refitting my 26 for an extended outing doing the Great Loop. I have converted mine to all electric. I have 300 Ah LifePO4 @ 60 volts for the drive. 300 Ah LifePO4 for the house, and 100Ah LifePO4 for the electronics (lights and such). Charging this I will have 1200 to 1500 watts of bifacial solar for the drive, 300 watts for the house and 100 watts for the electronics. My backup is a 3500 watt generator driving a 10 amp charger for the drive, 80 amp charger for the house, and 40 amp for the Electronics. The house will also be able to use the drive bank through a DC to DC charger. I will be posting pics of the refit in the coming days. Once the journey starts I hope to do a blog.

Skipper Dan,
Glad to hear from you . I Remember your posts from all your work converting your 26, lt is quite impressive. Unfortunately there hasn’t been much interest in posting for the last year.
Last summer my wife and I attempted to sail the San Juan straits but our outboard quit just as we left. Fires all over the Northwest required substantial travel delays and detours so we ended up canceling. Hopefully this year will be better. Keep posting your progress as you get closer.

Dan,
Sounds like an interesting project. I don't think anyone here has done full electrical propulsion. good luck and keep us posted on progress. As Rick mentioned the site hasn't been very active and that's partly my fault. I'm sure your renewed involvement will help the site immensely.

My first attempt went really well. The batteries were the drawback. I just installed 300Ah @ 60 volts. Big improvement. I went from 50 Ah usable Lead Acid to about 280 Ah usable. My solar was 5 50 watt panels, now I have 3 bifacial 400 watt panels just for the motor bank. Another 200 watts for the 300 Ah house battery. and 200 watts for the electronics for the boat. The motor bank can also supply to the house via dc to dc charger if needed. I learned a lot in Palau living totally off grid on the Morgan 37 OI.brigadoon wrote: Mon Jan 06, 2025 6:48 pm Skipper Dan,

The conversion was completed a few years ago and I sailed it around the Apostle Islands and on Lake Sakakawea in ND. The conversion itself was great, I just needed more battery. Now you can build a LifePO4 battery for about the same cost as a Lead Acid.C22Bob wrote: Sat Jan 11, 2025 10:26 am Dan,

I'm going to start this over in a new thread so the title matches the content.
