cracked rudder plate

Post by aerojet777 »

Hi All,

i noticed a crack about 3" long on the metal plate that the rudder is sandwiched between.

i believe this was the original rudder plate and i am wondering if this crack will propigate fast or if i might be able to motor around for a few weekends before i need to fix it. i think the rudder puts alot of stress on those plates and i would need to fab up something thicker.

any thoughts on if i need to replace those plates asap ?

Appears to be one of those "they do that" things. Several C26 owners have reported same thing, right where the tiller post ends. Some have had a plate welded over that area to beef it up if I recall..

As far as repair timeframe, EE's was like that for a while it seems - but your mileage may vary.
