C20 ballast question
Hi all, I'm a new member. I got a C-20 last year about this time. I moved up from a Flying Scott and have no regrets - it's a great boat! I sail on Lake Thunderbird in Oklahoma. I've recently re-bedded some of the deck fittings to stop water from leaking in. When it rains, water leaks in and ends up in the fixed keel (bilge?) on either side of the swing keel trunk. It's my understanding that the boat has 810 lbs. of ballast - 410 in the swing keel and 400 in the fixed keel. After checking for water a bunch of times, I finally started to wonder if that area is supposed to have ballast in it or if the 400 lbs is somewhere else on the bottom of the boat. Anyone know?

Another C-20'r! Welcome aboard. I'm not sure where they put the other 400 Lbs of ballast, in the manual it says it's in the fixed portion of the shoal keel??? I dunno, I haven't seen it.
Anyway your right, the C20's are very comfy boats to day sail in.. there's nothin' dinghy about 'em! I recently purchased an Oday Daysailer 2 with the idea of selling the 20. Well, dang, the Daysailer caused me to appreciate the C20 and the C20 caused me to appreciate the Daysailer
When my wife asked (again) which was leaving the yard, I told her that I need both boats. The DS2 is my solo boat and the 20 is for social sailing. Yea, she thinks I'm nuts, but I still cut the grass and fix things, so she keeps me around. LOL
