I just saw that Terrence and wonder if it was from the heat in the south? I am working with a group on a 108 year old racing wood sailboat and wood boats when out of the water need proper support as this one has sagged at both ends so we are probably will be replacing 85% but we are restoring her. Thats a nice old bit of history you and the group are working on. As for the heat down here it may have played a part in it, but I feel the main cause was my fat *&^&& walking up and down the port side with all the screws out!!!

I would not do anything with the gap until you are ready to re-install the toe rail. You can force some butyl caulk into whatever gaps that might have opened up. The small ridge at edge of the deck, seats the top leg of the toe rail, the hull should pull outward toward the rail when start to tighten the screws. You might want to use some long machine screw in that area with washers and nuts inside the hull so you won't risk pulling out the treads in the glass.

Sauerleigh and others thanks for the input... and the saga goes on one step forward... two steps back. To date I've not run aground of any significant maintenance sandbars... but the day is young. Here is a couple of photos to show I truly am moving forward... really!
