Keel Bracket

This may have been addressed previously, but does anyone know what the fixture above and aft of the keel pin fixture? There is a pin that sticks out of it about a third of the way across the keel trunk.

Pretty rusty. Looks like it's just a galvanized pipe. Any idea what it's for?

What's a Ginko? Is it located close to the snubber??

In the previous thread (see Jay's post), Banshi said he got rid of his snubber and never looked back.

I'm about ready to follow in his footsteps. I DO NOT like this set-up at all. Looks like a poorly thought out afterthought. The plywood backer is hardly protected from getting wet. Plus, it's made from off the shelf plumbing fixtures. What's up with that? Aluminum and stainless...and galvanized? Maybe in my unsalted ocean, but surely not the salty kind!

Anyone have any thoughts on the benefit of having this fixture in place?

My late 70's C-22 doesn't have one. Maybe they discontinued it.

Keeps the keel from banging side to side and doing two things, driving you crazy when you are anchored down and trying to sleep, and more importantly, wearing the hole in the the keel into something that looks like an egg.
I installed a new set up on mine when I did the keel and sealed everything up with 5200. I agree with you, not too much of a set up, but I just saw it as a necessary evil
