Loving our southeastern snowfall so far. Had 2.5" last night, awoke to a solid 6" and it's still coming down 8)

Tomorrow's going to be a little cold (high in the low to mid 20s) but is supposed to blow somewhere between 15-20 gusting 30 and steady 25 gusting 40. Windward will be sailing, barring unforeseen hardware issues.

Either tonight or tomorrow night will be on board. I'm leaning toward anchoring out, but every now and then I'm a lazy sod and stay at the dock when the temps are in the teens.

Jeff

Highs in the low 20's and gusting to 30 or better... you are a braver man than I. I'll admit my old blood is just not up to those conditions.

Sometimes initiative and good intentions just don't stand up to the conditions at hand. Headed out to Windward around 12:30 this morning. Way slick, but 4wd handled that OK. Lots of parking available. Shoveled the cockpit and deck, then spent an hour and a half attempting to free the companionway hatch with a combination of grunting, shoving, pulling, beating, colorfully commenting, scraping and chipping with various items from the dock box and truck. The mallet did cause a number of things to yield, some of which may later respond to epoxy and clamps, but it eventually became clear that the hatch would NOT be opening last evening. Drove back home around 3:30 am.

May head back out today with a pry bar, screwdrivers, a hair dryer (no heat gun available) and a torch. Still might not get to sail, though... last night all the lines were very very frozen, and the jibsheet fairlead blocks themselves were quite securely frozen to the deck. Experience has taught that the furler is not pleased when there's this much snow and ice. Still, the New Year's Day frostbite race is looking pretty crapping, with highs in the mid 50s and a 40% chance of precip, so today's forecast of winds 20 gusting 35 is hard to pass up.

Of course, I could just play in the Bristol some, take a hike, rebuild my laptop, watch a movie and improve my spirits with some single malt spirits. Hmmm. Decisions, decisions.

Supposed to be warm enough to epoxy or gorilla glue the broken teak on Thursday or Friday. Sigh.

snow ?

Im currently arm chair sailing with full glass of Makers reading the new issue of Good Old Boat and feeling no pain! Happy New year to all!

p.s. thanks to the folks at Makers Ambassadors for the nice gift, ball shaped ice tray! I prefer my icebergs round and the size of golf balls.

20+ inches of snow here! Nothing moving. Some knucklehead tried to drive down my block last night and got stuck so even the plow can't get through.

OK somebody get video of Jeff!

I can just imagine that scene at the dock as he's banging away, pieces chipping off, sailor slang in the air, and being disapointed he can't get in! Too funny

Surprised nobody called the Police and he gets put in the pokey!

"No really officer, it's my boat!!!"

Gotta love it,, Your my Hero buddy!

Fortunately none of the episodes were filmed (I hope). It's supposed to warm up later in the week, so will give it another go then. If all else fails, I'll fire up the JetBoil and resort to boiling water. Or boiling oil, if it comes to that. Currently consoling myself with a wee dram of Balvenie 14 Carribbean Cask.

It doesn't look like today's winds got much above 20 on the lake, so at least I didn't miss really stellar breeze.

Using a chinelle blend fabric and covering a mix of old and new cushions as my boat was missing about a third of it's cushions when I bought it. I have eight yards of good looking fabric that I cut for the boat plus another four yards not cut and changed my mind on, then bought more that I am using. If you are interested I could sell to you (or anyone ) for $50.00 plus shipping. That's what I have in it, not to mention about 6 hours cutting time. I would be happy to mail you a sample of the fabric to look at if you like. Please feel free to PM me or call me, at 423-341-8056 for more details
