Solar Panel - One Day Sale

Post by tgentry »

I have no interest in this, but thought other sailors might be interested. We have this panel on Copacetic (it was on sale about this time last year).

It's a nice panel and controller setup, and has had no problem keeping up with our weekend demands. It fits perfectly on our companionway hatch with some little wood spacers to get it above the teak strips.

Incidently, if you mount it in this location you will need a mast carrier to keep the mast up higher than the pushpit while stepping/unstepping the mast, otherwise it will be on the solar panel.

WOW! That looks to good to be true!

You say you have one?
Is it truely weather proof such that I can mount it outside my boat and it will hold up?

Sell me more! LOL!

I'm extremely tempted but I already have a solar panel!

I really want one of these. The panel is great but the controller/charger portion is a pretty decent deal itself.

Ours has been mounted on the boat since early June with no issues at all. The panel is glass and the frame is anodized aluminum with plastic corner/mounts. Electrical connectors are all o-ringed for weather proofness. It works as advertised, my biggest problem was deciding where to mount it.

It's a nice fit on the companionway hatch of a C26, but I did have a couple other ideas as well. I have a cord from it going to the mast step where I already had an unused Perko connector. The cord is partially fastened down, such that the hatch can slide back and forth. I mounted the controller in the sink cabinet so I can check status when I want.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy one again.

I don't have a solar panel at this time; just what do you consider weekend demands? There is so much on my overhaul list already. Too play it safe should I add this solar panel bundle to the list... or is it just icing on the cake? Given the price and the fact you have had good performance from it, would I be the bigger dupe by letting it pass me by? :? ... and yes photos please.

Weekend demands in our case have been interior lights, stereo and recharging cell phones. In some cases we have had issues preventing us from using the boat, so no motoring to charge the battery, but it's always fine.

The panel provides at least some charge even on overcast days or in the shade, but I haven't measured how much. I'm just going by the charging indicator on the controller.

For us, so far it's been icing, since we could plug in at the dock, but we're hoping to do some overnight anchoring next year. It will also keep our battery topped up at the storage facility where there is no power.

Do you need it, maybe not, but if it's on your wish list, this is a good product at a great price. If you're comparing prices remember to include a charge controller.

Sorry, I looked and I can't find any pictures of my installation. I won't be able to take any until this weekend.

Thanks again... I've got just under five hours and take your time on the photos. There will be a little bit of Christmas in Sep. this year 8)
