I'm currently testing a tiller of my own design with a higher rise and shorter reach, for more confort at the helm and to give us more room in the cockpit. The prototype was just cut out of a 2x6 with some fender washers to fill in the space at the mount. Once I finalize the design I'll make it with nice wood

Bondo,
Let me know how that works out. The ones from IDAsailor are laminated layers, I'd be interested in the strength differences between yours and the original. I've got to come up with something for mine soon.

I'm hoping the protptype will stand up to the stress under heavy weather, but have not had a oppturnity around here lately, works great under power

I'm keeping my origional tiller on board just in case.
The laminated tiller will be a winter project.

WOW! The tiller snapped?
I've never seen that happen before.
FWIW I had a tiller on one of my C22's that had seperated from itself. The individial pieces of wood were OK but the came apart from each other. I sanded smooth and cleaned it up best I could then glued it all back together. I used wire ties to hold it together about every two inches. Worked perfectly. Once the glue had set I cut the ties and sanded the excess glue off. Next came cetol and it looked/worked great!

I bought the idasailor "A" model. It's a bit too long, and I had to install shims on the h bracket, but I like it. The 9" rise works out quite nicely.
