Marina requires $100,000. of liability insurance.
In order to get insurance (even liability only) I must get a survey.
In water survey $390.00
Insurance $159.00
And none of this make Sundowner better looking or faster.
Bummer.
Hmm,
I insured Lady Jo, trailer, and motor with State Farm.
Same thing. Cheap, no survey, no problems.
Extremely cheap.
( relative to Destiny)
Another thought is if you are a member of the USPS or United States Power Squadron, you can get insurance cheaper. We use them for Destiny.
A side note:
If you can show extened knowledge of boating a lot of insurance companies will lower their rates for you. For example take a boating class that qualifies and your insurance may get lowered! I have the grade of "Pilot" in USPS and it definately helps my costs! Something like 10 or 15%. Yeah I know so what but the premiums on Destiny are high enough that 10% is a good chunk of change. Every bit helps!
I insured through CEICO on my C-22 and motor with no survey to $25,000 for about $150 a year and my boat is a 1976. Do you folks with the C-26 have to jump through more hoops then us smaller boats do?
Thanks
Alan

I have Progressive since I own the boat (2006), I pay like $35 bucks a month with $100,000 premium and all that good stuff. No survey or anything and my C-22 its also from 1976.
I have progressive, you can mix and match coverage however you like, do it all on line, I have lots more coverage than bare bones and pay 220 a year. You can do it all on lone, easy , you can even buy the policy at a negotiated loss rate, not market value. Shod your beauty be totaled instead of getting A thousand bucks you can receive whatever your policy is that you paid for. I reccomend progressive as you can play with and mix/match coverage on your own . The web site is great .
I'm insured through Boat US. No survey required they just wanted a couple pictures. Cost is reasonable and they have some good benefits available like towing on land or water.
When I called my agent this last spring about boat insurance (Illinois Farmers), I was told that my homeowners policy covered the boat even in the water. I checked the policy and it appeared to be covered. I've since
changed insurance so will need to get a new policy now. I am looking at BoatUS.
