Galley

Post by Mario G »

One of the things that was missing from my C-22 was the galley, and I'm sure anyone that has hunted for one can tell you they are very hard to find.

I'm also not sure if the factory set-up would work for our needs do to the fact that it takes up alot of storage space and weighs a good amount, so I thought a removeable set up would be better.

Heres what I came up with http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/28 ... 6121RuyyTU

The plans include making the bottom section into a cooler and have the top hold the dishes and flat wear needed when crusing.

Hey Alan you could rebuild your galley useing real wood, and /or make changes, thats was my 1st plan but I thought the chest would be very practical. I will need a galley and this set-up is all in one that I can load and un-load myself. I didn't know the original unit had a water tank I have a seperate one and was thinking when I cruse I will get a water-bed holding tank mattress  so I'll just pipe in water.

Could you send me pictures of the original set up.

Legend has it the original owner still has all my missing parts including the galley but all messangers fad off to neverland.

The original galley was the first thing I took of the boat. It weights a ton, and it was listing the boat (and the stern its already heavy as it is) I never got around doing building a new one.

One more thing, when I removed it, I gain a TON of storage space in the process :D Where the galley used to sit I have empty milk crates with line, bungee cords, propane tanks, oars, boat hook, extra line, fenders, etc, etc.

I finally splashed Catch-22 on Saturday, got a nice five-hour sail in and have had no problems so far, knock wood. The galley is on my list also. My 22 came without the galley option so doesn't have the overboard discharge or the sliding track. I am thinking of using a Coleman propane stove and five gallon collapsible water jugs, with a medium to large stainless bowl for a sink. Instead of adding more holes to worry about I am thinking a good heave over the side will work for a drain. I haven't figured out the cabinetry for this set up yet but do have a master cabinet man on the hook for the job. I am thinking an elevated perch for the water jug where it can drain to the sink, storage under that, a properly sized round hole for the bowl/sink to sit in, and an area with low sides to hold the stove steady. All will have to be as compact and light as I can make it and will have to be able to be secured well enough to take a pounding. Whatever I come up with, if it works, I will post for others consideration. All ideas and suggestions are also welcome.
This list gets the lions share of the credit for getting Catch-22 back in the water and sailing, thank you to all of you guys and girls that have helped me get this done, most of whom never knew you were helping.
I have to give special thanks to EE for his patience and help finding the information I needed to find. Also to Captain Scott for his extremely helpful information on mast stepping, which kept me from looking like to big a fool on the boat ramp.
