4 grand per year;

that is just for it to sit outside on the hard in winter and the water in summer....doesn't include anything else....just simply parking (and hauling and launching and untep/step mast)

.... makes no sense at all

I've owned my c-26 for 8 years and a rough estimate of my out of pocket costs would be $15,000. That includes boat, trailer, marina (before trailer), outboard motor, sails and beer. I can honestly say its worth every penny.

Three years of sail boats

Post by Chrysler20%26 »

I have had 3 sail boats for 3 years, two I sail on an one I work on an never sail on. That C- 26 is a lot of work, but the best looking, just wonder about sailing it. So for now my best boat the C- 20, fun easy,no work vary nice boat, biger the water the biger the fun. 2400 total just the cost of the boat, came with every thing. Mc 25 good boat on small inland lakes, came with every thing no work just sail cost 1300. C-26 came with every thing. That is my work boat, all I do is work on it, cost of boat 2300 cost of repairs to date, about 100.00. All in fun, an vary happy with all my boats. I have no wife an live a long, so I can have as maney boats as I wont.

OMG Alan,
Are you trying to get us all shot?

What if Diane were to read this . . . . . You'd promptly see several boats for sale! LOL!

Hmm, Lady Jo? Purchase price plus new tires for the trailer, new VHF, bottom paint, pressure washing, and britework.

Lady Di? Eeeeek! Purchase price, all new blocks and tackle, all new running rigging, new sails ( however they may end up on Lady Jo ), brightwork, some new canvas, new ( used ) outboard, trailer lights, pressure washing and polishing, . . . .

I don't even want to think about Destiny!
We literally just dropped her in the water Monday evening! We just completely sanded her bottom, bottom painted her, and polished her hull!
Freekin' bottom paint is 250 bucks a gallon and we use 1 3/4 gallons.
My arms hurt . . . . .

OMG, stop me now!

Scott

PS: If anyone is interested in the process we do in Destiny I could document it with photos.

For me I made money.

I have maybe 8K in it with the boat price / refitting / storage fees.

I have saved much more in the time I have spent with her. When I bought her it was either her or a shrink. So in the end I have saved a ton of money. she saved me from the rat race we all tend to fall into. my life is so much simpler and happier now!

Damn if my girlfriend reads this she is going to be pissed, I never talk about her that way.

not to go o far off thread --- but related... what is the single largest purchase you made ( or plan to make) for the boat ( engine, sails, cushions, trailer, radar, condo boat slip etc.)

I bought a 4 stroke outboard - 900. ( plan to purchase a custom Foss rudder - 1000, trailer ??)

And to answer NYCSailor, the "other boat and trailer". I paid $1200 for both, and sold the boat for 200, so, net I paid $1000 for the trailer.

WOW!,, Ok, dog.... THANK YOU! you know what they say...if we all threw our problems in a big pile... we would rush in and grab ours back again.....

not that it is any consolation to you...but ya know...I don't feel so bad after reading your saga...kinda' like misery loves company (aka Forum) got 'to give you credit for sticking with a chrysler after all that...some incredible brand loyalty!

I really appreciate your advice on the trailer.... I have been cautioned NOT to buy a boat just for the trailer ...but it is hard and expensive to buy a lone trailer...so I will revisit that approach. it is kinda stupid to bear all the high yard costs of a big boat when you have a small boat that is trailerable...

unreal what you went through...anyone else might have just abandoned her for a salvager.

Whatever EE's costs so far are, you can add $160 for the nice lightweight burgundy bimini that just arrived !

Maybe the "gypsy rains named hurricanes" will let this one stay aboard this time.

Hey EE,
What brand and model Bimini did you get? Wife is a redhead, so a bimini is required equipment. I've been eyeing Overton's.

Sorry for the hijack.

Those redheads can be light skinned  Esp if they are from the Idaho Danish stock.

For my redhead we got one from www.safeguardcovers.com
Price was right, free shipping, in stock.

This is a fun subject!!
Some of you know I got the boat for free w/ trailer.

Getting it back to Ohio from NJ.
Buying and fitting a tandem trailer (for long distance hauling)
Motor
New Keel Brackets and bottom paint.
Made our own cushions and material
Wife and I figure up right now we are at the $5700 mark.

and we both think its worth every penny.

Not sunbrella. "600 Denier Heavy Duty Canvas" with a liner on the underside. EE's skipper is notoriously cheap, especially on decorative or utilitarian items. Especially on ones that he just knows will get blown off for the 3rd time after being used about 5 times.. The expected use is not much more than the occasional sun shade. It won't be unfurled much except when the fair skinned one is aboard in summer
