weight of c22 mast

Post by sealady »

Hi....I am new to the forum as far as posting goes. I have been reading and learning from you all for some time though. I usually find any answers in here somewhere...I thank all of you for that :

My question is........does anyone know how much the mast on the c22 weighs?? I sure would love to know. We are refitting the mast on ours and we have the 26ft 6 in height ..but can not find weight anywhere..would love it if one of you guys know...thanks Helen

Welcome to the forum Helen! Glad to have ya here!

As far as the weight goes, I do not know but I do know I can lift the mast myself and I'm a whimp so maybe 50-60 lbs??

Now that is a non scientific wild arse guess so don't quote me! LOL!
I bet one of the folks has your answer!

No problem however, lets hold of on any conclusions until others chime in! Don't want to just trust my guess!!

Helen,

I'm not sure, but I think the C22 used a Kenyon 3049 spar, about 5" x 3". That clocks in at about 1.6# per foot, so once again Scott underestimates imself (he can lift into the three digit range) and it ought to be around 100# for 26.5'. You could look at www.rigrite.com or www.dwyerspar.com to get an idea of various mast sections and what they weigh.

Oh, and welcome!

Stripped down with no hardware or lines about 60 lbs. Hubby can carry it by himself on his shoulder out onto the driveway when we work on it.

Welcome, you could carefully balance it on your scale at home but mine feels like 75 lbs or so

I think I am in the ball park with the weight. I will balance it on the scale (we have a nice strong scale) Mast is also full of hardware.

Thanks so much, and nice meeting everyone.........what a wonderful forum. This forum is so active and so spot on.....Happy sailing :)

Hi, welcome to the forums! I guess it weights about a 100 pounds or so? I can carry it, but its heavy to raise and lower.

I will weigh this one this afternoon..I believe it to be about 100 lbs....I can not find a spec on how much it should be.

We did not weigh her today....got busy...this is not the regular C-22 mast..that is why I need the weight, but I will seeif I am in the range..the size fine and its from a similar sized boat...just trying to be sure we are within the range....may be a few days before we get it done....I will post ...

From my experience the mast is heavier when it is in the process of crashing down due to a broken mast raising bridle.

Can anyone here really raise the mast themselves by muscle and not by pushing it up? I must be a real wuss because I would not even attempt it and I like trying those types of things.

It is always going to feel heavier going up as you are at the pivot point and 20 to 30 feet of mast above you.

we huffed and puffed...lol

Actually my husband made a mast raiser and we love it. Makes putting the mast up so easy. (tkes all the arguing out of it) lol My main concern was not having a mast that was too heavy....(heavier than the original mast)

Love this forum....kind of glad I needed the info...nice getting to know everyone...you are all great............thanks

Please tell us more about this mast raising system. I could use less conflict in my marriage :-)

Hahahah Fran..my exact thought........I will get the details from him..he has made several and all are in use....all I know is I don'thave to even be up there...and it has come in handy when we wanted to go on lakes with low fixed briges..just lower it down and put it back up..not a problem at all. If I try to explain it ..well....I will leave the tech stuff to hubby (Bob)..he keeps it in front of the mast..attached just pulls it down and fastens it and he can stop in the middle and go untangle "things" (that "was" my job...now I just enjoy being good crew........aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah yes
