What does your cockpit floor look like?

Post by bmwdad »

1975 C22 - The largest leak when it rains, or at least when I simulate rain with my hose, comes from the opening in the floor of the cockpit to the
engine (is there a nautical term for this opening). By the way, this boat has an inboard OMC Zephyr sail drive. The previous owner replaced the opening cover with one he made from aluminum and there is a ton of caulk all around it. Do all C22s have this opening? In most of the pictures of C22s I've seen, they are usually sporting outboards. Does anyone have a photo of what the cover is supposed to look like?

If anyone is interested, I have the following original OMC Zephyr Sail Drive manuals :
Owner's/Operators
Parts Catalog
Service manual
I would be willing to make copies if someone needs them.
Peter - 1975 C-22

And not the calm or the strife.

Hmm I've not heard of anyone here sporting an inboard engine so I am going to guess it is a modification? Mine has two holes at floor hieght in the back of the cockpit about 3 inches that let water run into a small storage area that has two holes leading out to drain it. I put my fuel tank there. It has a fiberglass lid but probably is not the area you are referring too.

I have to admit when I read the topic "what does your cockpit floor look like" my first thought was "a few leaves were in it last time I was out, dirty/needs paint, and has a rust ring caused by a varnish can I left on board a couple weeks ago.
:?
It is on the to do list for tomorrow.

Wow, saildrive on a 22 ! That's cool ! Would love to see the pics !

Banshi,
I have the same as you, the 2 holes into the back compartment, where the gas tank is. This is in the floor of the cockpit, right under my feet between the 2 seats/lazerettes. I didn't even think the engine might have be an add-on.
