Starwind 22 flipped by a Tornado

Post by Smier »

I found this on Sailnet this morning, and was surprised to see it was Starwind 22 (cousin of the chrysler 22) when I looked at the pics!

Hmmm. During Hurricane Gustav we had a tree fall on a Starwind 22. It had just been raised after sinking at the dock in a bad thunderstorm.

Must be a design flaw..

I was actually afraid that this would happen to my Starwind during Hurricane Sandy. I was unable to move from my In-laws property, and was forced to leave it in front of their garage, unprotected from 3 sides. Thankfully the worst of the wind came from the North, damaging the garage roof, knocking down some trees, but the garage actually protected the boat! Had I moved it, I may not have been so fortunate. I'm going to secure the boat and trailer with stakes and winches next time.

I joke about the Starwind at the club only because had that tree fallen the other way it would have smashed EE.. I had the chance to sail it once and it was a sweet boat

I wouldn't mind having one at all !
