My 1983 Starwind 22

Hello all, my name is Scott and I'm from Easton, Pa. I recently became the owner of my second free (well, kinda free) sailboat. My first is a 1980 Compac 16, that I rescued from under a tree for the previous 10 years, I took this:

And after 3 months of sweat equity, and about $450, I had gotten it to this point:

We spent our family summer vacation on a small lake in Ontario, realizing that as nice, simple, and easy to sail the CP16 really is, it's just not big enough for our family of 5... So imagine my wife's surprise when I dragged free boat #2 home:

No, it didn't look like this when I picked it up, but after a couple days of scrubbing, pressure washing, and cleaning it is starting to look much better! So far I've spent about $290 getting the trailer road worthy again(2 new tires, LED trailer lights, and new trailer bunks. I plan on doing a write up about my rebuild/restomod in the Starwind section. Glad I found this site, and I appreciate all the info I've found here so far. I hope to add some much needed info on the Starwinds to the site, so stay tuned, I figure it will realistically take me most of the next year to get the Starwind back to its former, seaworthy glory. Plus, we are just learning how to sail, and I think another season in CP16 will help better prepare us for the move up to the Starwind 22.

Yes welcome aboard shipmate.

Very nice job on the restoration Scott!

And yes Captain Scott is on a mission to renovate Chrysler's everywhere. I've seen him bring several boats back from the brink of the land fill and send them off, back into the wild, fully restored or even better then new. Sometimes I get to help too.

Thanks! I am actually just getting started on it. My main priority has been getting the Starwind dried out and sealed up. Windows and frames need redone, pop top leaks, not sure about the forward hatch over the V-berth... Then we will begin redoing the interior, cushions, shelves, and water damaged cabinetry over the winter. I am feeling much more confident about tackling the keel pin and brackets after reading up about it on here, so thankful for all the info on this site! This was the first I'd ever seen or heard of a Starwind myself, and info is limited.

You are correct! The pop top is what sold my wife, she's not a fan of tight spaces. It is heavy, and leaks right now though... I plan on replacing and/or adding gaskets to seal it up, then I want to make some sides and screens to allow us to use it while anchored. I plan on setting the boat up for multi-day trips for the 5 of us(I have 3 kids, ages 9,6, & 4), so space is at a premium. You have no idea how blessed we are, we would not have been able to buy either boat financially, and both came fully equipped with new or decent sails and gear. Without the generosity of these folks, I would still daydreaming of someday owning a sailboat!
