Thanks for the story, it sounds a glorious day.
I used to restore and race Triumph sports cars, and Amphicar used a Triumph Herald engine. I found one back in the mid 80's, in reasonable shape for $800, but passed it up because it needed paint and a top and I was busy with other car projects. I have kicked myself ever since.
