C-14 Dagger Help

Post by GPaisley »

Due to leaving water in teh transom draain area, I believe I have allowed the backer board for the bolts mounting the transom casting to the transom to rot and thus the bottom two screws in the casting have nothing to grip--only the top two have any grip.

I asked a fellow sailor yesterday how he wold repair it and he suggested cutting an acess hole in the stern (on the horozontal part) and use that to get in to replace the backer board. I could then cover the hole with an access port (I had wanted one for storage of keys, etc while sailing), so while not the ideal locatoin, I could at least make lemonade.

Another sailor suggested JB Weld, which sounds almost too good to be true. Is this really that eaasy and effective?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I like the idea of the repair except the JB Weld. I'm not sure it is meant for the marine environment.
