I was able to get it by the foot from www.catalinadirect.com a while back. Looks is if they sell kits now so I would contact them about window seals by the foot. They also sell sealer for the gasket.

Best!

how to find leaks???

Post by NYCSAILOR »

ANY IDEAS ON TYPICAL C-26 LEAK LOCATIONS????

OK, my boat NEVER leaked before in some 20 years...

I had the boat repainted and the contractor really pressed and conviced my wife to "update" the windows by removing the windows OEM aluminum outer frame and the OEM plexi. he then cut oversize tinted black oval plexi and glued and screwed it ( with a total of 4 screws ).

I was really against this but it does look GREAT, however, i now have two problems;

1) from two starboard windows i get a oozing of some brown stuff in the inside side of the windows.... worried it will stain the brand new cushions.... ( contractor inspected it and tells me it is from the heat causing the glue or something to ooze out of the inner cabin core..he said to air the boat out, not let it get too hot and that it will stop...he refuses to do any rework on the windows..) I fear he NEVER sealed the open core with epoxy ( yes, a lot of work) as is proper practice...

2) My boat is seriously filling with water, after a few days the bilge is filled -- I can only get tot he boat at best every five days so I am stressed) I am pretty sure it is rain water bu I can't figure out where it is coming in... none of the new windows show any sign of water staining of water streaming in -- I think it is coming fro the head where I have teh OEM .. vent and waste deck plate.... I seriously duct taped over thoses and they show no sign of water damage or staining ...I complaind to the contractor and he said he guarantees the windows won't leak but won't do a damn thing..he said he thinks teh leak is from the port side chain plates thru-deck..

ANY IDEAS ON TYPICAL C-26 LEAK LOCATIONS????

BUT NOW...

I have a small 500GPH bilge pump but don't have the battery power to leave it in automatic mode unattended... I plan on getting a 750 GPH ( doubt it will make much diff..) and hook up a nice sized solar panel to try and charge the battery.. not likely to keep up with a pump's amperage drain....

Time for a do-over. :cry:

Thanks

Two weeks ago I reseated my window. the issue was between the frame and the cabin not the window and the frame as I feared. I did not get squeeze out of sealant at the top of the frame when I mounter it on my first attempt. Sure enough that was were my leak was. Once re-done correctly all is well. So now I have one more tip to add.

Apply more sealant around the window frame than you think you need. Press it to the hull. Insure you have sealant squeeze out 100% of the way around the frame before screwing it down to the hull.

This fixed my issue and I'm high and dry inside once again. Ready to wash windows on a 25 degree heel once more.

Thanks
Alan :wink:
