Study Finds Wind and Waves Increasing Around the World

Post by Alanhod »

Hi All,

Found this article I thought everyone might like to look at.

Yea, I'm a tree huger, so live with it. I do. After all I have my solar powered boat. Well except for that 9.9 hp 2 cycle carbon belching outboard strapped on the back.

And based on the above story I don't need to use as much 2 cycle fuel as my boat did back when it was built because there will be more wind for me to use.

Also more evidence I NEED that C-26 to handle those bigger waves I'm dealing with. Not sure the First Mate will buy that sales pitch. I'm going to have to work on that story a bit.

Thanks
Alan

Alan all I can say is last summer on our way back on an 80 mile run we had wind on the nose in a narrow section about 10 miles long with 3' white caps and the 26 cut right through I had about 1/2 full water tank under V berth(15 Gallons) the other 2 boats an O'Day 22 and Karlskrona Viggen 24 were pounding away and getting beat up but the 26 was long enough to span 3 waves and heavy enough over 2000lb more than the 24 and alot more than the 22. My avatar is about 1 mile before it started.
Catch the wind and ride the wave, Have fun

See now that's the kind of data I need to sell my need for a C-26.

Problem is I had the First Mate out on a day that was suppose to be nice and smooth. Nope you guessed it. 30 knot winds, 6 to 9 foot sea with white caps. My little C-22 looked like a Coast Guard Cutter bounding up and over the waves, keeping the nose level and the stern staying firmly in the wave as we went over. The first mate was sea sick so it was a very short sail but the boat handled it all very well. I had a good time too but got it back to shore as fast as I could with the sea sickness issue. Hoping the First Mate would sail with me again if I could mitigate the that damage.

Not so lucky on that count, she has yet to go back out with me.

Thanks
Alan
