Hey and HI!
It's me again, and if I missed a reply to whom-so-ever said "howdy", i give my full apologies here: thank you all !!
Um... I suppose I should have been more succinct about my boat:
Magic tilt galvanized trailer, 7' sliding tongue, wheel-bearings packed, with industrial strength new tires. Hull=tank-like. mast=perfect. standing-rigging=perfect, boom=perfect, jib=new-ish, main=must replace (could use old material for something else?), blocks=perfect but showing age, winches= x1 (port) possibly stripped-out, foam-in-cockpit seats=removed (all foam will be removed/ undecided on how to replace safety floatation), running rigging= okay for now, rudder=fine - maybe some cosmetic work, bottom-paint=not bad but not great (zero blisters), Keel-pin and brackets = my last big item on "how tough is YOUR boat list".... hard to tell, and everything else is so good... why not go for it, and replace it ?, 5 h.p. motor.... simply no idea what-so-ever (both me, and it). 50:1 gas ratio, looks ancient... oil.. lower unit.. change... uh... HELP! Starting? God only knows: all hints will be well recieved. Will "test" start motor soon... need to manually take it to a dock I guess? OH... and electrical= piece of crap/ total redo. Needs weather vane, might fix the old one. Needs spit-and-polish=of course. All this for $1500. With exception of the main sheet, no real "problem" areas at all. Logic makes me think that if I redo the keel pin and brackets, I have completed the last "critical item", in making my boat 100% sound for the next 30 years.
I thank you all for your hello's, information, and continued support.
I have a great purchase, and have quite a bit to do before spring jumps on me, and demands that I put her in the water.... FOR THE FIRST TIME/ SAIL UP!!!
ALL thoughts are greatly appreciated on the check-list of things to do before putting her into Lake Quachita in Arkansas. Not yet licensed. Have four pfd's and one throwable. teenee-tiny air horn. small extinguisher.
Made my own "mast-raising" winch from info I searched hard for on google. The first experience of raising the mast (actually raising went well, but lowering it was horrific) was nearly catastrophic. My son's arm was very nearly broken when he bear-hugged it and "rode it down".
Entirely different system now, and it works well, easily, and safely.
Yeah.... I removed all doubt, I was an idiot.
"plain sail syndrome": I'm recognizing that Sail Warehouse will likely send me an unembellished plain white sail. How freaking boring. Where's the regalia, I tell you.... the ruffles, the flourishes, the bobbles and bangles!!!??? Anyone know how to "add designs to sails?"
Where to buy pinnet material for flags in small amounts/ lots of colors?
Yeah.... that's the ticket!!!
YOOhaw!!!

Welcome aboard! There is a store or a guy or someone on eBay that makes any logo for sails, I have run across it a few times. Next time I see it I'll send you or post the link. As for some blind there are still a few pennants available , check out the fir sale section of the BB. Cheers!

When I was looking at new sails, wow I guesss two years ago now, they offered to put what ever design I wanted on y sail even new numbers to match my old ones.
If you have an idea of what you want ask your sail maker. I'm sure the price will go up accordingly but you'll have just what you want right from the start.
Sounds like a real fine boat. As for the keel pin get a flashlight and crawl under the boat. shine you light up in the pocket and have a look at your keel pin. It may be just fine. I sure would not go taking my pin and brackets out unless I needed too. Don't get me wrong, new is good, but a previous owner may just have handled it like on my boat. I too paid $1500 and my keel pin was only 1 to 2 years old at the time. So give it a good look see before moving forward.
Thanks
Alan

Bill, what brand of outboard do you have?
50 to 1 gas to oil is very standard for most outboards from the 1950's to the 1990's.
I tank test my outboards by mounting them on a saw horse and placing the lower unit in garbage can with water.
