Hey all you wood workers out there!
I recently picked up and El Toro in great shape except the bottom paint is pealing and is about 15% bare wood and will likely be more soon.
I'm thinking strip the outer hull and repaint her this spring.
Anyone here ever do that to a plywood boat?
What did you paint it with? Epoxy? Glass? or some cool easy to use wood sealing paint?
Thanks for any tips!
Scott

I wouldn't glass the outside of the hull unless you can glass the inside as well.
Doing only one side of wood or plywood will seal that side pretty well but the other side will expand and contract at a different rate which is bad for the finish. I would just strip and paint. I used porch floor paint on the outside of a mahogany plywood double shell that I built and varnished the inside, that finish held up for a few years without a problem.

On all of my wooden boats in the past I used a marine paint like (Woolsey) I don;t know if you can still get it and if it is going to stay in the water for more than a couple of days at a time then go over that with anti fouling paint.
