Rudder rope replacement on C26 while in the water.
Rudder rope replacement on C26 while in the water.
Hello everyone, I'm brand new today and really appreciate all the information and experience you offer. My C26 rudder will need a set of new ropes soon but I can't get it out of the water. the water is clear and I can get it to shore, retractable keel. Has anyone had to do this? Any input on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brianw

The rudder does tend to be bouyant, so you may find yourself having to hold it under to put it back on and get it lined up, but its certainly doable. I overtightened EE's single bolt last year and a pal dove down and loosened it a bit for me.
Some C26 rudder assemblies don't have the single bolt tho. A few on the board have the assembly that is a large center puck with a circle of bolts around the perimeter.

Thanks mates, I now have a pretty god idea of what to expect when I get down there. I have a 1978 model that I am restoring and I love her. She has been sitting in fresh water marina for some years but she is back to life now. I took her out the other day with new motor and a shake down plan. I had a wonderful time and really like the way she sails. Again, thanks. Brian
