Main Hatch

Post by brian »

Has anyone replaced the main cabin boards with Plexiglass? I have seen a couple on other boats and was thinking of that as one of my winter projects. Any pros/cons or ideas would be great.

thanks

I have tinted lexon hatch boards on my C-26 and like them very much, the only con is you can see from the outside in at night when you have cabin lights on.

A small curtain might take care of that, something which can hang from some small C hooks and stowed when not needed.

another option for the shower curtain is those spring loaded curtain rods offered at places like Kmart. We use one on Destiny and it is very nice when we want it up! Just that little extra privacy!

I also use them to hold the TV in place! Works great!

I'm thinking of making one replacement hatch board with a Plexiglass panel. Will frame it with teak to match the other boards. Then it can be swaped out for privicy or security.

There's a short article in this months Good Old Boat magazine about replacing the dropboards with a folding Plexiglas door arrangement.
