<lol> Actually pic posting instructions have been a sticky in the "board discussion" area since late 2009. Not a lot of users hit that "search" button and look for them tho..

Alan, if you don't mind I'll add a copy of your also excellent and comprehensive how-to over there after a day or two.

Think I may also add the "how to post pics" links as part of the welcome email new users get as well. Along with some notes on the search feature which I find doesn't get used by users as much as it could. All the topics on the board are right there behind that button for the reading !!

Yes EE, you may move this to the appropriate loaction for anyone and everyone who wants to use it. Like I said I think it was your original posting on how to get photo's up on the forum I used in my first attempts tp post. I know poor Captain Scott was posting my photo's for me for at least a month or more before I found your positng and went all hog wild posting photos myself.

I'd like to add one small touch. It would be appreciated if you would re-size your photos to 640x480 pixels before saving them to your online depository. First because some of us are using dial-up and the smaller pictures load faster. Second because they fit the screen without having to scroll out to see the whole picture.

I prefer the 640x480 as well, just my personal preference for the scolling reason.. There's no site prohibition on larger, but Leatherneck makes a good point on both counts.

What about the thumb nail photo's? Is clicking to webshots slow? I was thinking about changing photo host.

I can't speak to the dial-up problems personally (I use cable) but I was "reprimanded" on another forum once for posting full size (3002 x 2000 pixel, 2.5Mb) images. Actually, reprimanded is a mild term. There was actually a "public outcry" of sufficient volume to make me believe these people were strung a little too tight for my tastes. I eventually left that group, but the lesson stuck in my head.

I agree with resizing photos.
A wide photo causes the web user to scroll just to read every post in that thread. What a pita! LOL!

I do however dispise the photo web servers that have pop ups and advertisements. Nothing worse than going to click the "next" button on a great gallery and the server pops up an ad under yout mouse. IF you don't click the ad, you no longer can see the photo. Feels like these sites went back to the dark ages of internet.

I understand having photos linked to my own site is not always best but I so much prefer not having pop ups! LOL!

A really simple way to resize photos:

This process requires that you have outlook, outlook express or Microsoft mail as your default mail client, and are running Windows. (sorry Macs)

1) select the photos you wish to resize in thier folder, you can do just one, or several at a time.

2) right-click on one of the selected photos, and select "send to" in the context menu and choose "mail recipient"

3) A "send pictures via email" box will come up, the "Make all my pictures smaller" option will be pre-selected. The default size is 640x480, but if you click on "more option, you can also choose 800x600 or 1024x768.

4) once you click on OK, windows will resize the photos and add them as an attachment in a new email message.

5) create a folder to save the image(s) - I usually make a folder called "small" withing the folder that I have those pictures in. This is an important step, because if you save the small versions back to the original folder, they will replace your originals.

6) drag the pictures out of the email message and into the new folder you created

Now you are ready to upload them.

Looks like a lot of steps, but it is really fast once you have it down.

I personally don't like webshots or photobucket for that reason. Browsing seems slow and at times the pop ups get out of control. I like Picasa the most for browsing, flicker isn't too bad..
