Finally went sailing

Post by sauerleigh »

The Maude Kay will not launch until next season, so I am now a half owner of a Catalina 25. 1985, fixed keel, roller furling, self tailing winches, Nissan 4 stroke.
Took her out last night, steady 18k gusted to 22k a few times, single reef, handles very nicely. We did good.

Sounds like fun! Those Catalina 25's are very popular boats around here and still command a pretty healthy price!

Congrats on the 50% share!

Glad you had a blast!

Glad you got out. Sailboats are a little like British sports cars -- you want one to use while you're taking parts off of the second one to get the third one running the way you want.

I think it will be interesting to compare the Cat25 and the c26. By the number on http://www.image-ination.com/sailcalc.html they are very close.

I'll be interested in your comparisons. Believe the Catalina will have more initial stability / less tendency to heel, but will bounce you around more in chop. Let us know how you like it... I have a real appreciation for outboard rudders now.

Very cool comparison tool there I've never seen before. Thanks for posting it.

Cool congrats!

My buddy loves his Cat-25, and sailing definately beats working on them,,, it just really slows down the progress if your like me and don't get any work done for a month!

The big differance you will find between the cat25 and the C-26 is the size of the cockpits. The Cat 25 has a much larger cockpit but less cabin space. great fot racing if you have a crew but more cramped for cruising.

In the course of one week, my young co-owner and I have used "Redux" more than the PO had used it all season. Last evening was the best for me in many many years. Steady breeze, a flat lake, my son and my nephew. All I needed was my Oban.

Cat 25's must be good boats. They're certainly popular. Seems every other one at Stockton is a Cat 25.

We feel very fortunate to have come across "Redux". The only real issue so far is that outboard bracket is undersized. I live in an area with more than half a million people and last night there were only 2 sailboats within sight on us and we were the last one in.

Being on the hard yesterday, today and seemingly countless tomorrows some could become cynical seeing all these photos of little bits of heaven. Luckily I'm not numbered among them. Such photos are taken to heart as inspiration of thing to come... keep them coming! 8)
