LS-16 seat backs

Post by LeatherneckPA »

I've never seen a picture of an LS-16 from a dealer brochure, so I don't know which way they were made. First is a picture of the skanky old dilapidated indoor/outdoor carpet the PO had on the seat backs when I bought her.

The only thing that makes me think this may have been the way it was originally done is the way the cavity folds over the top of the deck and the carpet just filled it flush. But I was thinking about having this car interior guy I know make me some nice padded seat backs, with buttons and everything. I'd just supply the plywood back pre-cut to fit.

A fella posted in the For Sale section for an LS-16, disassembled. He sent pics when I inquired, including this one. It raised more questions than it answered. For starters, it appears the boat may have come with padded seat backs just as I was planning.

And then there are the grilled floor boards? I'm kind of liking that idea. It would be easier to clean her out that way. Just pop them out and have at her. But if that's the way they were originally done, what was the boom cleat secured to and how? My PO had screwed down 5/4 pressure treated deck boards and it looks sloppy as all get out. to be honest with you, I'm kind of afraid of what I'm going to find when I take them out.

Got it. Thank you.

It says "seat back assembly". I'm wondering if that was padded or just carpeted?

While we are on the subject, did you see the full manual on Windward's helpful site ? Can be found here if you haven't yet.

Yes, I have that one saved and printed also. Currently working with Layline to complete the rigging for my boom and hopefully will have Cinderella in the water this weekend.

Mine had black vinyl with buttons over thin plywood backrests. the floor was covered outdoor carpet over 3/4" plywood (look at recent 'rubrail' posts under 'wanted')
