Are those speakers, or access plates on your transom? It does seem that speakers back there could do double duty to access the nuts on the stern pulpit mounts instead of just cutting a hole and covering it with a deck plate. I couldn't make it out. If they are speakers, how do they sound back there?...

Sailing Pamlico
My brother-in-law, who lives in Manteo, courteously invited me to bring my C22 and visit him this fall. He specifically stated that the first or second week of October was generally good and a little cooler weather, hurricanes excluded. So I am tentatively planning the trip. It will be about a 10 ho...

Thanks very much for posting the pictures. I plan on building a new galley for my C22 as the PO threw the original galley away. I may use an HDPE top with a large stainless mixing bowl as the sink, and a small propane stove. Can anyone enlighten me as to the nature of the connection from the galley ...

I built a shelf just outboard of the port keel pivot under the settee. The battery (Group 24) is mounted in a plastic battery box and strapped to the shelf. This gets the battery about as close to the CG as possible and doesn't weigh down the stern. I have 6 gauge wire going to the electric start Ho...

Beaching a C22
This may be a dumb question, but I thought I saw a picture of a C22 right up on the beach somewhere. Has anyone beached their C22? You know, on purpose? If so, what was the procedure, pros and cons, etc. Mario had intrigued me with the thought of participating in the NCSail Pirate Sail (maybe next y...

The HDPE in that thickness will be so heavy you will not be able to retract the rudder with the pull rope. Just something to think about. The stock rudder floats, but the metal rudder cheeks and shaft will cause it to sink if it falls out of the boat, leaving the rudder reaching skyward on the botto...

I agree. I had a bronze through hull and I machined a delrin bushing for it. I planned to replace the plastic through hull with the bronze. I also had thought about replacing the rubber hose with PVC pipe as others had done. But then I thought about it a little more. As you said, it had worked for 3...

I used 4200. Just use plenty of it so that it will squish out everywhere, and don't tighten the through hull nut down too tight. When I was working on mine, I noticed the through hull was wiggling around and it kind of freaked me out. So even though the PO said it didn't leak, I took it out. Turns o...

I intended to give it away to whomever (whoever? never can get that right) needed it for the cost of shipping. Of course, if you are going to pick it up, it's free! My email is volcanoe423@comcast.net . Just remind me before you come and we will make arrangements.

Excellent sailing podcast
I don't know if any of you listen to podcasts, but I have to heartily recommend the "Furled Sails" podcasts. They have slacked off greatly in the last few months but there are two years worth of weekly podcasts that are absolutely wonderful to listen to in the car. The authors are based in...

Mast Hook for a C22
I installed the Kenyon mast hinge on my C22, so the original hook step plate is available if someone needs it.

I love Oriental. Been there four times just for fun, but have never sailed there yet. The public free ramp at the end of Midgett (Midyett?) Street may or may not be deep enough to launch everyone. Even with the tongue extension I had most of the back tires of my F350 in the water to get my C22 launc...

Thank you for the quick response. I can hardly wait to get back to the boat Saturday to try this. So I was probably correct in that the down haul will hook into the ring on the bottom of the gooseneck? At what speed does the swing keel pendant cable start to hum? I had it at that speed several times...

Downhaul/rigging question
I took my C22 out on Saturday for the 2nd time and first time by myself. My question is about the downhaul/Cunningham device which consists of two blocks and a stainless long hook. There is a stainless ring on the bottom of the gooseneck which I assume this attaches to, but the boom was not high eno...
