Where's the water coming from?
In the process of working on other projects on my C-22 I have developed a seeping water problem. My boat has been on a trailer since Otober 2016. However, water collects around the keel bolt area on the access hole side (starboard), and now that the plywood has been ground out on the port side ...

How Rusty is Too Rusty? Keel pin questions.
I have some keel bolt/pin concerns, though this seems to be mainly an interior issue.
My boat is on its trailer, but from below I can see the keel pin and it looks to be in good shape. No corrosion, no rust. I can't tell the material from which it's made. On the port side I can see a shiny metal ...

Yeah, I hear you. I scraped some of that out, and it does seem to be wood that has become degraded, rotted, whatever--it fibery. I think I agree with you, but I was hoping (am still hoping) a knowledgeable person says, hey it's not a problem. I think if this area loses its structural integrity, the ...

What kind of deterioration is this, and what's the fix?
Hi all. Cleaning my C-22 in preparation for launch I found something disconcerting yesterday. It is an area of deterioration in the forward settee on the port side. This is on what I guess would be called the keel trunk, in an area above the keel bolts, very close to the top of the settee.

Hi Jsa. Thanks for your input. I can see where the extra purchase could help, but oddly I've never sailed a boat that has such a set up. Every boat, and I've sailed up to 38 footers, have a block on the toe rail area and then directly to the winch. On the C-22 I haven't yet needed to use the crank ...

How do you cleat your jib sheets?
Hi there. I'm getting my C-22 ready to go back in the water. I think I will replace the jib sheet, but I have a couple of questions about how they run and where they fasten.
The boat came with one sheet, about 38' long, that I fasten to the jib with a soft shackle system (This is an improvement on ...

Hi. I had the same question a few weeks ago. My shrouds are quite tight, though not rigid. The fore and aft stays, though, have a fair amount of give. They're not loose, but I can move them bu hand a few inches. Having the jib raised and tensioned seems to help stabilize the stays a bit.

So, the hook on the mast step in the photo is really pointing toward the bow? That would be backward. One issue is whether the slot in the base of the mast can be joined to the hook in either orientation--the slot for the mainsail facing the sky or facing the deck.
In the normal orientation, the ...

Reality, thanks for your comments on sails and wind. yes, she does seem a bit tender. If i go out tomorrow, there may be some stronger wind and few choices made. I'll report back if its a "learning experience."

Hi Bill. On a fast/performance boat, a boom vang is required equipment. But many (all?) cruisers I've sailed have had them, as well. On cruisers, in my experience, however, they are rarely adjusted, pretty much just set and left to do their own thing. The vang is not not just a matter of efficiency ...

Install boom vang on a C 22?
On the C 22s the book vang was optional equipment. My boat does not have one, nor a place on the boom to attach one. The ring at the bottom of he mast is present, so at least I can use that on one end.
Has anybody installed a boom vang on the C 22? Any tips? I don't think it should be difficult ...

Captain Scott, thank you for your practical advice. I am satisfied with the fore and aft stays being tensioned but not piano wire or rod tight. I can flex them by hand. The mast is not coming off : ). There is no play in the mast itself.
