Upgrades, about registration and more
Greetings Chrysler Sailors, I've upgraded the discussion forum to PhpBB version 3.2.11. My goal is to keep pushing that onwards toward version 3.3.11 -- most recent version. See new announcements. Also, the registration process is still prone to spambots so I'm having to start and stop that until I ...

Re: Chrysler 22 Keel Cable
The swing keel weighs over 900 lbs. Stainless Steel 3/16" wire rope is the only option. REPLACE it and all supporting hardware at your earliest convenience , or when it (nylon) breaks, the keel trunk will get damaged when the keel falls and find yourself unable to easily retrieve

Re: Captain Scott is still alive! LOL!
Scott, Glad to hear from you. Sorry to report I haven't done much with the forum. I removed new registrations feature about a month ago. I just got back from Michigan last week. I'm going to post soon if anyone wants to take the site over. FYI...couple years ago I cloned/archived Jeff Arnfield's liz...

Rick, Thanks for sharing that and for the pix. Sorry to hear after all that your trip was cut short. Bummer. I trust your next outing will be much less stressful and much more sailing

Re: inspection
The swing keel in the C22 is appx 900 lbs. of cast iron and stainless steel. The SS part is an internal plate where the cable attaches. This is a great question and many of us have had the same curiosity. Suffice to say, that Chrysler (and the design engineer for that boat) did a great job in making...

Attach some pix when you can. File size is limited so post if you need help with that. There's a stickie post somewhere I wrote about resizing to fit, etc..TBDay wrote:Any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: Mast step/Tabernacle?
I have it off the trailer inside the shop so raising the mast is not possible. Checking the V birth and the seats for table inside against the water line mark are very close. Way the rigging looked and the mast step fiberglass broken badly repaired would not trust that part is even close. Looks lik...

Re: Mast step/Tabernacle?
I can get you some pix next few days of mine. Leveling is tricky. Doing mine (1980 C22), I had the boat level on trailer. Of course requires some separate factors to confirm true level and plenty of resources online for that. When sure of level, attach simple strings (port and stbd) from masthead an...

Re: What sealant to use replacing windows.
Welcome! 3M5200 is by far the best marine sealant on the planet. For areas where you foresee needing to remove later, butyl caulk works well. Comes in gray. Do you mean the toe rail or the stanchion posts are loose? Posts some pix.

Either of those could still cause considerable damage as long as the motor runs. The only safe solution is an electrical cutoff switch.

Re: Electric Winch for Keel
Here's the page for specs on my winch https://www.dutton-lainson.com/proddetail.php?prod=25500 As for your question on preventing damage to the bridge, I have the cable marked so I know when it's very close to being fully up. Also, for safety I don't operate it remotely. On retracting the keel, if I...

Re: New C-22 Owner! handling question
Welcome to the forum. Do a search for 'Extendable Trolling Motor Handle'. I use one on my C22 with Suzuki 6HP outboard when motoring. When motoring in open waters, most prefer to lock the outboard straight and steer with tiller. That doesn't work very well at low speed though when trying to drive up...

Re: New Chrysler Owner (and sailor!)
Welcome...I moved the topic over to General Discussion. The 'Sandpiper' is a fantastic boat to learn on. Very stable and forgiving. In its class of daysailors back in the 70s,..like MacGregors, Hunters, Catalinas, Odays, Emersons,..and all the rest, the Sandpiper is in a class by itself for construc...

Re: Pictures of all Chrysler sailboats w/stories
Thanks very much for the post. I'll pull all that content over into our site for longevity. For many years the 'Chrysler Sailing Association' was also at Chryslersailing.lizards.net run by Jeff Arnfield, but that has gone away. The 'lizards.net' is a site that also hosts the Watauga Lake Sailing Clu...

Re: Mast Step Trouble
Here's a link to Scott's web page from the C22 owners manual. I don't recommend trying it any other way. I've seen too many people regret it and end up doing major damage. Also, everyone pretty much uses the boom as is shown in the owners manual http://captainscottsailing.com/ChryslerDocs/C22_Sandpi...

Re: Mast step measurement
I don't have that hook anymore, but it was probably 1/8" thick aluminum plate. Since that's gone, just rebuild
your mast step and install a new hinge plate. You'll need to make some changes to the mast of course but well worth it in long run

Re: C22 Keel Bracket/Pin Kits for Sale
Welcome aboard! The Starwind to my knowledge is a C22 clone with some minor changes as you noted. I haven't seen any brackets for sale postings in a long time. Most of us have had to build our own, or hire a machine shop. I made my own from stainless steel and did my own welding, etc. There are lots...

Re: New Sailor with C22...Need Your Help
Brian, Congrats on the new Sandpiper! The mast on C22's is very robust for its category of daysailor. I can imagine generated a few curse words when it snapped off. Were you using the factory documented procedure with gin pole and bridles to mast and demast? The 'hook' arrangement is not ideal and I...

Never heard or seen that happen. Check over at https://ruddercraft.com/
Yes----that is the original factory head
Doesn't look too difficult to machine one from scratch if you have the tools or know someone handy like that. Welding is also an option
