Standing Rigging for C22

Hi All,

I've enjoyed reading the past posts and have learned a lot about my "new" C22. Unfortunately, it's a "project boat" having sat behind someone's garage for the last 8 years. During that time, the standing rigging has been misplaced. Most of the running rigging is there, but dry-rotted and in need of replacement, but all the stays, and shrouds, as well as the spreaders have disappeared. Also, the mainsheet is missing.

The tiller is missing also, but I have a pattern for that already thanks to a very kind list member with a C22 of his own for sale.

Does anyone have a good lead on where I can obtain a full set of stays, shrouds, etc?

There's a C22 on Craig's List that I thought about cannibalizing, but I hate to part out a boat unless the hull, mast, etc. could find a good home. Any ideas?

Maybe a rigger can help you out? I know that when I wanted to replace my forestay, he ask me to send him the old one to make the new one, but I'm sure somebody might have the specs for the C-22.

Sailfrog,

I am on the other side of the state about 2 1/2 hours away. If you need to you can come over and use my boat for any patterns you may need. I have a 1975 C22.

I forgot to mention there is a marine supply store in town that can custom make rigging to your specs.

Stock lengths are at:

does not mention size i don't think, and as I recall early C22's came with a tall mast option, so you'd want to double check those measurements.

Driving over and comparing with 2nd generation would be a great idea.

Thanks for the site, EE. I'm thinking that if I take that info to West Marine they might be able to make something usable for me.

Mike, I sure appreciate the offer to let me measure your rig but there's one closer whose owner has made the same offer. If West Marine can't do the job I may ask you for the name of the shop in your area. I would think (there I go,... silly me!) that there would be a shop in the Detroit area that could do it though.

I'm still hoping to find the original equipment in someone's garage, or basement, though.

Dan,

I would check with a riggin supply place first, at least shop around. We have one in Spokane that has done standing rigging and done a great jopb of it, but primarily is for construction, logging etc.

May save ya some $$ to spend on something else... I am lookin at a new outboard motor mount for my C-22. $350 at WM, $250 down the street for same product!!

My 2 bits anyway and Good Luck!

Don't go to WM, they don't know what they doing when it comes to rigging. Go to a rigger, might be a bit more expensive, but you will sleep at night. I went to WM to get a keel cable, and I could have done a better (and cheaper) job myself.
