Well I have had an old lightning main sail stored in my closet for 15 years now and finally decided to make use of it. I got out the scissors and went to town cutting off the lower two panels, removing the rope adding a few brass rings some reinforcing and walla a storm jib on the cheap. Got to test it out yesterday and though the shape is not perfect it allowed me to keep the main up without reefing and still keep the wife comfy in winds up to 20. I could probably handle 25-30 with the main fully reefed and still have a jib up.

Since I'm getting new sails for Lady Di, Maybe I should hack up the old set that were wrong for the boat anyway and make a bit of a storm jib also!

Hmm, I'll craigslist them and if they don't sell quickly, I may just do that!
