Here is a 26 with a diesel inboard. I would love to see how this is setup.

Seems like I've seen a pic somewhere, can't remember where though. Seems like it was on ebay in the last year.
The sales brochures of the day listed a "7.5hp diesel inboard with sailboat drive, remote controls,12-gal tank" as an option.

a few years ago a boat broker in CT had a c-26 with a inboard that I think was factory. I was always meaning to get over there to take some measurements but never had teh time and I was told to abandon the effort to convert to inboard as it would be too expensive, complicated , and uneconomical for such an old cheap boat. I already bought the saildrive and was looking for a inboard diesel when I gave up... I was always curious of two things...what powerplant they used and where did they install the fuel tank. as EE states the option was there for a 8hp diesel with a saildrive.
I might have some pics the above mentioned broker sent me and if I find them I will post OR somone could bug this AZ seller ( or go inspect it themselves in AZ) for pics and measurements, would be a great addition to the knowledge base.
This particular AZ boat seems well fitted out and well taken care of...I liek the little window in the companionway boards..as wellas some other features I can see from this one pic on CL

I bugged the az seller with an email, but haven't gotten a response yet.
What exactly is a saildrive?

Think of it as a short outboard motor leg, except it is installed in the bottom of the hull, and goes up thru the hull and connects with the motor.

Yeah, I can see it. I googled for it after asking the question. big hole in the boat, from what I can see.

My C26 has the OEM diesel/saildrive unit. For the record it's a Volvo MD5A diesel connected to a Volvo/Penta 110s saildrive. The diesel is rated @ 7.5 h.p. with total weight of engine and drive given as 288#. The fuel tank is about 45 litre (~12 U.S. gallon) mounted on port side of engine directly behind galley with a deck fill above. There are online manuals for both these units which is going to be handy! I just brought the boat home and won't be trying the diesel for a while but it does turn freely with compression, so I've got my fingers crossed!

I would love pics.... you may want to carefully inspect the gasket of the saildrive before splashing her...this is likely very old and may no longer be available as a replacement part and if they are are likely to be old too and are very expensive...I am in the process of assembling the parts to install a oem deilsel in my c26..I already have the 110s saildrive ...l

you want pics? you got pics! It's embarrassing to show the boat in this cond. but when it's 40 below you can't do much cleaning! With the diesel located where it is and the galley where it is, there is no access to the port side aft. We're thinking of moving the galley forward on the port side next to the head. The fuel tank would then go behind the diesel leaving us with access to the port aft area. In the pic of the bilge plate you can see the 3/8" pipe sticking out in the top left quadrant. I haven't removed the plate yet, but the sole in that area feels like concrete! The corroded piece on the exterior shot of the saildrive is a replaceable anode - I hope I can find one! I'd like to get the boat up and off the trailer so I can lower the keel as I can see it has no bottom coat on it and I would like to check out the cable and attachments. I haven't figured out how I'm going to accomplish that just yet!

Monty, I'd guess that plate has/had a small bilge pump under it, and the wiring came out the tube. That's pretty much were mine is on EE.
Lifting it off the trailer you say ? I've heard it can be done

As a fellow fixed keel c-26 owner -- your boat is gorgeous and in abetter shape than you think... no shame on this one... I can't get enough pics of that little diesel sitting there where it belongs... it gives me inspiration to follow-thru with my conversion... I see you have alot of neat little features and upgrades ( I remember the rolloer fuler too!) your PO must have put a lot of work into in her day... can't wai to hear how that volvo / saildrive works out... love the blue topsides...
