Cradle or stands

Post by thepartydog »

Ok, I got a chance today to make a thorough visual inspection of the bottom of the boat. Many nicks, and what looks like a silver dollar size indention in the side of the keel. It's way down by the opening for the keel pocket. I don't know if the indention will let water in the boat, but the bottom is in rough shape. The bottom paint is worn away in some spots, and there is even a few chips that expose glass fibers. Now, I'm not so sure about putting her right back into the water. So, on to my question. Where do I get stands or cradles in a hurry? Can I build a set of cradles? I need to have the trailer back by Friday.

Cradle

Dog,

I have a copy of a "Good Old Boat" article in electronic format on how to build a cradle. I will be happy to send it to you. Contact me via private message or email with an email address if you want a copy.

Good Luck.

Don't have pics of the stands, but picture the nice metal ones, just made from wood instead.

Took a couple stand pics this morning, if I was doing them again I'd add some ply gussets, but as they were they were steady- most of the load on them isn't bow to stern but from the pad to the ground. By placing the rear of the foot hard against the ground, then pushing/wedging the pads under the hull so there was a bit of push against the hull on each side they stayed rock steady even after the cradle was removed. In these pics the boat is not resting on any trailer bunks, but only the stands and she's sitting steady.

A friend ended up building 4 metal stands. I helped, so they are not perfect. She's also blocked forward of the keel, and is still standing after the big winds over the past two days. I'll post some pictures when I get a chance.
