New to me C22 Concern with Rudder Assembly

Greetings everyone, thank you for taking the time to read! I am contemplating the purchase of a Chrysler 22 for a weekend cruising lake boat. The owner is stating rudder was bent when last taken out of water. Picture shows what looks to be a through hull bushing broken, is this a difficult fix? Boat shows pride of ownership and well taken care of but a 6 hour drive away. Should this issue prevent me from purchasing the boat?

All depends on whether the hull was damaged in the process. That SS shaft is very sturdy and the amount of force needed to bend it could have damaged the fiberglass. I would ask for some closeup pix of the hull from both sides.

Here's some of my rudder work

Welcome to the forum.

For what it is worth,
I had a C22 with bent/damaged rudder plates similar to the pictures shown.
Found a local welder that could build a new rudder shaft and plates for me very reasonably priced.

I also replaced the bushing and do not recall it being a problem finding one. It has been quite a while though since I did any of that work.

New bushings are available and not that expensive, plus they are better than original. I believe you get them from a rudder manufacturer. The two white mushroom shaped thingies.
