Starting diesel

Can’t get my new 26 with Volvo diesel to start.
Turns over strong but won’t fire. When the key in accessory position there is no power to glow plugs, is that normal?

Also an anyone tell me what the left and right black pull are for above the key and the three red lights below?
Thanks

Actually, I can’t find the glow plugs.
What I thought was is a pressure sensor.

Hello,
I am not familiar with that particular diesel engine however they are generally pretty similar.

I will assume you have good fuel.
Check all your fuel lines and make sure they are nice and snug! Check the injectors too! We were crossing the Straights of Juan de Fuca in dead calm one year and our Perkins Prima 50 died suddenly for no apparent reason. Fond a fuel line connector had wiggled loose!

Also, do you know how to properly bleed your fuel system? Any recent filter changes, leaks, or whatever can get air into the fuel lines and diesels DO NOT like that! They just refuse to play! If you have not already, learn how to and bleed your system then attempt a start!

Have you changed fuel filters recently? IN PNW we change ours 1 per year to keep our Perkins happy. Remember to bleed the system afterwards!

Hope this helps!
Scott

Thanks, you have given me stuff to think about. I have taken the fuel lines apart up to the injector. And fuel good to that point. Still nothing.
I’ll have to research the injector.
Thanks

Yeah, if you have disassembled the fuel lines, proper bleeding is likely required for that motor.
Good luck and keep us posted on what you find!

Update:
I put the injector in an ultrasonic cleaner and the motor starts and runs really well now.
