Looking at buying a C22 and have read that the keel pin and brackets need to be replaced on a majority of boats. One person paid $4500 to have this done. I have read the procedure, but did not find how to access the actual pin to remove it prior to dropping the keel and replacing plates. Is there some kind of access in the cabin? Thanks in advance for help.

I just bought a C22 last week. I've gone through it the last couple days. Mine (1977) has a black plastic cover about 6 inch diameter on the "walkway" side and is exposed on the other side (under the forward) seat of the dinette. Mine lived in fresh water and I'm not seeing a problem.

Under that seat access, you'll typically find a screw-on cap. Take that cap off and you'll find the pin. Hopefully it's threaded so you can run a bolt in to help retract it.

Pulled mine, repeated the original brackets and put same pin back in. They looked that good!
