knot meter

can anyone explain to me how the knot meter works on a C 22? right now it seems to be some of the time with no electric. thanks bob

Basically you should have a thru-hull with a little device consisting of an under the waterline paddlewheel (with magnets on the wheels), and a sensor that reads the electromagnetic field made by the passing of the magnets. This is sent up a wire to the knotmeter where the impulses are converted to a needle (or digital) readout.
If you are having intermitting problems could be the wheel is sticking. In my case I had a dirty potentiometer that calibrates the meter. Turned it left and right a few times and it fixed it.
