banging noise from keel

just noticed there is a banging noise when the boat rocks side to side and the noise is from the keel.
is this normal or does anyone have comments on this ?
there are no cracks and no leaks on the keel trunk, just an occasional bang when the boat rocks.

Not sure how that is handled on the C26 but I'm sure one of the guys will pipe up! When I sail my C22 I just crank the keel up a tiny bit. That dramatically decreases any odd bumping of the keel!

"In theory" with the keel all the way down the head of it should wedge into place in the keel trunk and limit the banging.
Like Scott I find a bit of tension on the winch line helps.

Hi EE, i had my keel most of the way up when i was in the water because i was just motoring around and wasnt sailing. could it be that the banging is because the keel was up ?
i thought about lowering it but wasnt sure if that would help. its the second time ive taken the boat out so im new to using it.

Could be - I would think that it is easier for the keel to swing side to side when it's up (with weight suspended between two point) than when down (and all the weight is vertical on the front pin).
Plus when up and mostly horizontal there's still a lot of keel in the pocket to hit the sides. Down only the head is in the pocket.
