I just acquired another C22 (the MN boat listed in the "for sale" forum), and need some guidance on the hardware for the pop-top. The sliding hatch is not connected in any way. There is one smooth plastic strip(broken) on one side of the pop-up base, but it looks like those would just be low-friction slides. I don't see any kind of runners for the hatch edges to fit into, nor any holes where the missing rails would be attached. What an I missing here. I'll be tarping it for the winter in a couple of days, but would like to start planning for April. Merry Christmas to All, Larry

I have a C22 Pop top. My photo's of it and hopw it works are not available at this time, sorry to say.

However, I will attempt to describe it in text.

The pop top is attached at 6 points when it is down. There are 4 poles or struts that have pivot points at the top and bottom of each pole. The bottom pivot/hinge points are attached to the top inside of the cabin opening. the top pivot/hinge points are attached to the hatch/pop-top.

The last 2 connection points are a latch, one on the port side, one on the starboard side of the hatch opening. This keeps the pop-top from, well popping up when you are sailing, i.e. locked down.

I can't post pics because the camera is in NYC with my wife. We have some weather moving into WI, so I have to get it tarped this weekend, and won't see it again 'til April. The issue is the sliding hatch, not the whole pop-top. I can't operate that anyway because it's blocked by the stowed mast. On the hatch, there is a lip running fore and aft on each side that should fit into some type of channel. The part(s) that form that channel are what is missing. We have a very good plastics company here that will cut and fabricate parts, or I have some leftover pieces of teak. Larry

Hey Larry, I have a 1980 C-22 with the poptop and took some photos for you so you can see how it is supposed to look, here:





The hatch is supposed to slide in between a strip of teak and the plastic you mention and it sounds as if you're missing the teak wood strips. I had to replace the plastic strips (bought them at low price from McMaster-Carr) on my boat as they were broken up pretty bad. Now its looking good as new.

OUTSTANDING!! Thanks for the pics - it looks so simple even I can do it. I've inventoried all the bits and pieces that came with the boat, and those rails are nowhere to be found. There is so little teak on the C22 anyway that I'm leaning toward having them made from tough plastic. Only 4 more months until the tarp comes off and the projects begin.
