NutiCharts and Active Captain App

Update on this smartphone app - if you haven't seen it, it combines charts with a overlay of local knowledge 'markers' from sailors using the app and site. Tapping the marker brings up the underlying info..

Tapped on the marker for Pass Christian Harbor after I had paid for my slip, and noticed it said slip fees were only payable at City Hall, and that the marina had 30amp shore power at all slips.

Well, not so, actually. Fees are again being accepted at the harbormaster, and the power is out from Isaac, but a $15 discount is being given for now.

All that to say this - I logged in at the Active Captain site, looked up that entry for PC Harbor and typed my update.

Later I open the app, tap the marker on the chart, and the new info is updated for all using the app to see ! That's pretty cool.

I saw the Active Captain website. I like it all right, but I kinda have mixed feelings about it... hard to explain :)

Yeah, I'm not so fond of the Active Captain website itself as I am of the NutiCharts app. Would be nice if you could update the Active Captain info markers directly from the NutiCharts app...

Well, to me is the mystery, and the adventure of finding cool places, and secret anchorages, and stuff like that. Maybe I am being selfish, but that's just me.

Hey, Gus, its like that back alley cafe I know in New Orleans that makes the best bread pudding on the planet. Part of the fun is not telling ANYBODY where it is, LOL !!

Until they start supporting a android app I really am down on active captain, I believe I heard somewhere the galaxy 3 outsold the Iphone5 last month, that's just the galaxy 3...........they need to get with it and get over what ever it is that is preventing them from making a dedicated android app. I mean you support crapberries and not androids?............what's up with that? Now that I got that of my mind I feel much better :)

Since I have an Android I evaluate NutiCharts for Android on it's own merits and I like it. I didn't know it was any different on Iphone.

Can you elaborate on what the differences are?

Works great on my Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket! Love it.

On discovering new places, I love to but also like to benefit from others experiences with marinas and hazards.
