I can't speak to the backstay adjuster, but here is a good post on the boom vang and boom kicker on a C26.

Attach point on the stern,
Some cable, some pullies and a little hardware your in business. Honestly though. Mine is more of a never need to adjust it kind of a thing. Happy I have it but honestly don't have much use for it. Though I'm sure I'd want it if I did not already have it. Then I'd get it and find I had little if any use for it. I played with it a lot when I first got the boat. Now I just snug it up and forget it.

Small Boats you don't need much, on my C26 I just figure 8 some stayset line at the top of the backstay split. If more tenson is needed just plull it down, it stays in place.
