Deck Paint Recommendation

Eventually I'm going to paint the worn out top side of the C26. Is there a paint type that you guys can recommend or suggest to stay away from? Is a primer neccessaary? How many coats do you suggest? As you can tell, I've never painted a boat deck before. About how much paint will it take to cover the top of a C26? Seems like a gallon went a long way on the bottom when we painted it last summer...What about prep work? Is sanding necessary? Lot of questions I know, but just would like some opinion from you folks that have done this work before.
Thnx.
