Using racheting straps on the mast/gin pole

OK, I've been using the great idea of racheting straps in place of the rope to connect the gin pole & mast for stepping and unstepping. Love it but I've always had to stop a couple times because when stepping the mast the straps going to the mast get tighter and the straps going to the gin pole get looser. It's reversed when lowering the mast.
Finally, I had a great thought & it worked great as well. Take about a 3' piece of 5/16 line and put it through the bridle eye with a boline on each end. Hook the straps to the boline eyes. Now the line can slide through the eye as the mast is raised and lowered, making the project much safer.
