Measurements taken from top of transit to center of prop. Long shaft 22 inches from top of transit to center of prop. Extra long shaft 27 inches from top of transit center of prop extra extra long shaft 30 inches top of transit the center of prop extra extra extra extra long shaft 36 inches from top of transit the center of prop. My C-26 has 12.9 HP XX long shaft, top of transit to center of prop 30 inches. I bout sailbob 2's old outboard. It is a 10 HP xx long shaft, top of transit to center of prop 30 inches. On E-Bay I bout a 15 HP XXX long shaft 36 inches. My C-20 came with a 5 HP extra long shaft 27 inches from top of transit to center of prop. My Mac. 25 came with a 9.9 HP extra long shaft. My C-20 can use the 5 HP or 9.9. Any outboard I have, But not my new 4HP Neson it has a long shaft, 22 inches from top of transit to center of prop. The C-20 must have a X L S or longer. If you wont to keep the prop in the water in ruff seas.

Thanks Bob for the heads up. From what I've read, cavitation is not only annoying, but bad,bad,bad for the motor. I'm holding out for an XLS

I'll second that,

A motor that comes out of the water in rough weather will burn up at least your water pump impellar quickly... Even a brand new one,,, been there did it.

When I go solo sailing I first start the outboard, then I go to the front of the boat to release the bow line. I can always hear the outboard as it comes out of the water. It gets loader, I don't think the prop comes out using a XLS. So I say in ruff water, as you go down on a wave is when your outboard comes out of the water. Don't try to use a LS outboard on a C-20 or C-26 you will surly burn out your impeller. An your outboard will have a short life.
